1. Test Your Car Battery

Batteries have to work much harder in freezing temperatures. If your battery is more than three to four years old, it might struggle on frosty mornings. If your engine is turning over slowly, bring it by the workshop for a quick health check before you get stranded.

2. Check Tyres and Tread Depth

Wet and icy roads demand proper grip. While the legal minimum tread depth is 1.6mm, we recommend at least 3mm for winter driving to ensure safe stopping distances.

3. Top Up Anti-Freeze and Screenwash

Make sure your coolant contains the correct mix of anti-freeze to prevent your engine block from freezing. At the same time, swap out your summer screenwash for a winter-grade formula that won't freeze solid on your windscreen.
